CHENNAI: Cyclone Fengal passed over Puducherry coast on 12:30 am. Puducherry recorded 22.5 cm rainfall and heavy rains are in the surrounding areas.
The weather department had issued a red alert warning of extremely heavy rains for seven coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu on Saturday.
These districts have been experiencing heavy rain from Friday night under the influence of Cyclone Fengal.
Several areas in Chennai, including Velachery, Madipakkam, Alandur, Porur, Egmore, Anna Salai, Manali, and Ennore received intense spells from Friday night, which led to water logging in various parts of the city.
Due to heavy rainfall and strong winds in the city, Indigo has announced that they have temporarily suspended all arrival and departure flight operations at Chennai airport on Saturday
EMU train services in all suburban sections in Chennai Division will operate at reduced frequency intervals until further notice on Saturday due to the rains

Due to the cyclone and heavy rain alert, the Madras Jewellers & Diamond Merchants' Association has announced that all jewellery shops in Chennai and its suburban areas will remain closed on Saturday
"Cyclone Fengal is now 125 kms SE of Chennai and has slowed down over the past couple of hours. While city areas of Chennai see a reduction in rainfall intensity. Suburbs and Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Ranipet dts will continue to see rains."
* More than 30 outbound flights from Chennai have been delayed
* More than 10 other planes, including those from Singapore, Dubai, Delhi, Kozhikode, and Hyderabad, have been forced to circle the airport due to poor weather conditions
* Officials are taking action to reroute these flights to airports in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Tiruchy

EMU train services between Tambaram and Chennai Beach station were suddenly halted from Saturday afternoon due to the ongoing heavy rain and storm caused by Cyclone Fengal.
Several electric trains, including those stranded at stations like Chennai Chromepet, St Thomas Mount and Guindy, have left passengers with no option but to disembark and walk to their destinations.
Several express trains will be short terminated and diverted due to the suspension of Bridge No14, following heavy rains caused by Cyclone Fengal.

Due to heavy rains and waterlogging , the EMU service pattern on the Chennai Beach - Chengalpattu section has been revised as follows:
Chennai Beach - Tambaram EMU services will now operate only between Chennai Beach and Pallavaram.
Chengalpattu - Chennai Beach EMU services will run between Chengalpattu and Vandalur.
The state health department will conduct 500 medical camps on Sunday in seven districts, namely Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, and Cuddalore, which are under red alert due to Cyclone Fengal.
Electricity Minister V Senthilbalaji instructed the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation officials to switch off power supply only during strong winds if there is risk to the safety of the public.
Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Villupuram, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai and Kallakurichi are the districts which is expected heavy rainfall till 7 pm.

Following heavy rainfall, the Government Hospital in Chromepet was waterlogged and patients are being moved to the top floor. he hospital faces the challenge of rainwater stagnation every year and arrangements are made to shift patients.

Cyclone Fengal has started to cross over the coast from 5:30 pm on Saturday: Thanthi TV report.
Heavy winds with speed up to 70 to 80 km per hour, is expected in the next 3 hours.
Cyclone Fengal has finally begun making the landfall, with the forward sector of spiral bands entering land at 7 pm on Saturday.
The cyclone that is moving at 7 km per hour made the landfall about 60 km east-northeast of Puducherry, said the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai.

Public are advised not to travel on loop road near Marina Beach.
Thanthi TV reported that there are many cars and autos travelling on the loop road, even after instructions issued by police authorities.
Chennai, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Kallakurichi to receive heavy rains till 8:30 am on December 1.
Speaking to the media, Minister KKSSR Ramachandran stated that the rain and wind speeds have decreased in Chennai without causing significant damage.
He also added that efforts are underway to remove all stagnant rainwater in the city by tonight.

The Cyclone Fengal is centered about 30 kilometers near Puducherry.
The RMC has predicted that the cyclone will fully cross the coast by 11:30 pm.

The Cyclonic storm moved west-southwestwards with a speed of 10 kmph during past 6 hours, crossed North Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts near latitude 12.05°N and longitude 79.9°E between 10:30 - 11:30 pm.
It will continue to move west-southwestwards slowly and weaken gradually into a deep depression during the next 3 hours.
