Kallakurichi schoolgirl case: 2 more teachers arrested today

On Sunday, the Principal, Correspondent and Secretary of the private school were arrested.

CHENNAI: In yet another development in the Kallakurichi schoolgirl case, the CB-CID on Monday arrested Chemistry teacher Haripriya and Maths teacher Keerthana this morning.

On Sunday, the Principal, Correspondent and Secretary of the private school were arrested.

Director General of Police C Sylendra Babu who inspected the campus where the protest and related violence took place in Kallakurichi with Home Secretary Phanindra Reddy said that the probe into the death of the schoolgirl in Chinnasalem, Kallakurichi district was transferred to CB-CID.

On Sunday, a group of protesters forcibly entered the school premises and vandalised properties demanding justice for the death of the girl. To control the violence, police retaliated with a lathi charge, and protesters in return pelted stones on policemen.

Meanwhile, Kallakurichi district Collector PN Sridhar issued restraining orders under Section 144 till July 31 in Kallakurichi taluk, and across some parts of Chinnasalem taluk.

Also, about 300 men have been detained and are being questioned for their involvement in violent acts and for vandalising the school on July 17, they said. On Sunday, 70 people were arrested for violence and 2 men and a woman holding senior positions in the school management were held in connection with the girl's death.
