Teen girl, mentally unstable woman raped near Chennai; 3 including history-sheeters held

The arrests were made by the respective All Women Police Stations and further investigation is under way.

CHENNAI: Two history-sheeters from Avadi were arrested under the POCSO Act for the gang-rape of a minor near Madurantakam in Chengalpattu district, while an auto driver was detained in Pammal in Kancheepuram district for the abduction and sexual assault of a mentally challenged woman.

The arrests were made by the respective All Women Police Stations and further investigation is under way.

Gang rape of minor near Madurantakam

In the first incident, a 17-year-old boy from Chennai, along with two minor girls aged 14 and 16, was travelling on a two-wheeler to Keelakandai near Maduranthakam on Monday night. When they were passing through Devathur at midnight, two men, allegedly drunk, who were standing along the GST Road, noticed the trio and chased them on a bike.

As the boy sped up, his vehicle skidded near Athivakkam, and the trio fell on the road. In the impact, the 14-year-old girl who was riding pillion sustained minor injuries. The two drunk men approached the trio and threatened them. On claims of taking the injured minor girl to the hospital, the duo forced the boy and the 16-year-old girl to leave the spot.

The accused then took the injured girl to a bushy area near Athivakkam Lake and reportedly sexually assaulted the minor throughout the night. The next morning, they dropped the girl near the GST Road and fled. The survivor, with the help of passers-by, reached the Chengalpattu GH and informed doctors about the assault.

Later, the Melmaruvathur All Women Police Station registered a case under the Pocso Act and arrested two history-sheeters, Kakka Balaji alias Balaji (28) and Damodhar Perumal (30) from Avadi.

Mentally-challenged woman abducted, sexually assaulted in Pammal

IIn a separate incident in Pammal on Monday, a 25-year-old woman who is reportedly mentally challenged went missing outside her house on Monday evening. Later, around 8.30 pm, an auto arrived near her house and dropped off the woman, who was in a disoriented state. The auto driver, identified as Sakthivel (26), attempted to flee, but residents intercepted the vehicle and assaulted the driver before handing him over to the Sankar Nagar All Women Police Station.

Police said there were injuries in the private part of the woman, and the family suspected that multiple men had raped her. However, the police maintained that only the auto driver misbehaved with the woman. Further investigation is under way.
