CHENNAI: Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s wife, Sankgeetha, has withdrawn the divorce petition and the plea seeking residential rights that she had filed against him before the Chengalpattu Family Court.

The petitions were filed after the couple, citing personal differences, began living separately.

The case had earlier come up for hearing on three occasions. Considering the high-profile nature of the matter and security concerns, the Family Court exempted both parties from personal appearance and permitted them to attend the proceedings via video conferencing.

When the matter was taken up again on Friday, counsel representing Vijay sought an adjournment, citing the ongoing Assembly session.

However, Sankgeetha’s counsel requested that the case be heard on the same day. The court subsequently posted the matter for the afternoon session.

During the afternoon hearing before Judge Sujatha, Sankgeetha appeared through video conferencing and made submissions for over 15 minutes.

At the conclusion of the hearing, she informed the court that she was voluntarily withdrawing both the divorce petition and the petition seeking residential rights against her husband.

Following her submission, the court closed the case, according to available information.
