CHENNAI: Following the early morning 'encounter' of a suspect in the Armstrong murder case, the wife of history-sheeter Ponnai Balu, who is another accused in the case, has requested police protection for her husband.

She submitted a petition in connection with this at the city police commissionerate on Monday, according to Thanthi TV.

It may be noted that Ponnai Balu is the younger brother of notorious gangster Arcot V Suresh. The latter was hacked to death publically near Pattinampakkam in August 2023.

Police have officially claimed that the murder of Tamil Nadu BSP chief K Armstrong on July 5 was in retaliation for the murder of Arcot V Suresh.

52-year-old Dalit leader Armstrong was killed by a machete-wielding gang outside his under-construction home in Perumbur on July 5, sending shock waves across the state.
