Two colleges, 8 schools in Tiruchy receive hoax bomb threat emails

Meanwhile, the colleges declared a holiday, the police said.

TIRUCHY: As many as eight educational institutions received bomb threats through email on Thursday and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) declared them hoax threats after a thorough search of the respective premises.

Holy Cross Higher Secondary School and College, Campion School Higher Secondary School, Samad Higher Secondary School, Acharya School in KK Nagar, Montfort Higher Secondary School, and St Joseph’s College and Higher Secondary School in Tiruchy received emails in the name of Sweta Balakrishnan, according to the police.

The email warned that bombs planted in the respective institutions would explode any time soon. Based on the information, the police along with the BDDS team reached the premises. The police said, fortunately, no students were present as the schools have declared quarterly holidays. Meanwhile, the colleges declared a holiday, the police said. The BDDS teams conducted an elaborate search on the premises of the institutions. However, they found it to be a hoax and concluded the search operation in the afternoon.

The police from the respective limit have registered a case and a search for the culprit is under way.
