CHENNAI: Greater Chennai Police have booked DMK Member of Parliament (MP) A Raja and MLA PK Sekarbabu for their alleged derogatory remarks against TVK minister and the Chief Minister during a protest by the DMK on Saturday (September 12).

North Beach Police registered a case against MLA PK Sekarbabu based on a complaint from a TVK cadre, Jagadeeswari. According to the complaint, Sekarbabu, who presided over a demonstration in his constituency, used derogatory expressions against the Chief Minister and Nirmalkumar while addressing the gathering.

In a separate case, Saidapet police registered an FIR against DMK MP A Raja based on a complaint. The case concerns remarks Raja made about Law Minister R Nirmalkumar. While condemning Minister Nirmalkumar for his Assembly speech questioning former Chief Minister MK Stalin's detention under the MISA, the DMK MP made remarks against Nirmalkumar, which he later retracted, following censure from several quarters.

Apart from Chennai police, Kallakurichi police also registered a case against Rishivandhiyam DMK MLA Vasantham Karthikeyan over remarks made during a similar protest in the district.

Earlier, on Sunday, police had booked over 200 DMK cadres, including DMK deputy general secretary A Raja, former minister Ma Subramanian, RS Bharathi, PK Sekar Babu and Mayor R Priya and other senior functionaries, for allegedly protesting at Saidapet without obtaining permission.
