CHENNAI: Public Works and Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna on Tuesday said that the political situation at the Centre would change in 2029, following which the NEET examination would be scrapped.
In a veiled reference to the ruling TVK's emergence at the national level, Minister Aadhav said the political situation would change in 2029, adding that the NEET examination would be abolished in Parliament then. Amid TVK leaders' open claim that CM Vijay is a PM candidate in the 2029 Lok Sabha polls, this hint has sparked speculation.
During Zero Hour in the Assembly, the minister recalled the death of Ariyalur medical aspirant Anitha, who died by suicide after being unable to achieve her dream of becoming a doctor after scoring high marks in Class 12 in the state board but being unable to crack the NEET examination, which is framed largely under the CBSE syllabus.
"On the ninth anniversary of her death on Tuesday, we recalled her sacrifice, hard work, dedication and sorrow. The agitation against NEET has continued in the State. The then Chief Ministers MK Stalin and Edappadi K Palaniswami adopted resolutions against NEET, followed by the present Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. However, the Union government has not yet accepted the State's demand," Minister Aadhav said.
"The change in the political situation will answer for all the lives lost. We should all come together to fight against NEET. Students should be bold and strong, and no one should lose their life," Aadhav said.
