CHENNAI: The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai is set to focus on manufacturing Vande Bharat sleeper variants in collaboration with Bharat Earth Movers.

The Railway Board has placed an initial order for 50 Vande Bharat sleeper trains in the first phase — available in 16-coach and 24-coach configurations — as part of its broader plan to operate 400 Vande Bharat trains on key routes across the country.

ICF will first produce nine sleeper variants, and in the next financial year, it plans to manufacture 24 more. This marks a significant step forward in adding overnight travel options to the Vande Bharat portfolio.

Meanwhile, ICF is currently finishing its delivery of 97 seating variants — 88 of these have already been handed over, with the remaining nine slated for completion within this financial year.
