Chennai police commissioner Sandeep Rathore transferred days after TN BSP chief Armstrong's murder

CHENNAI: Chennai City Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore was transferred, days after the murder of K Armstrong, the Tamil Nadu chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party in the city.

Rathore is now the DGP (Training) of the Police Training College, Chennai and the ADGP of the Tamil Nadu Police Academy.

Additional DGP (Law and Order) A Arun is the new CoP, according to a notification issued on Monday by P Amudha, principal secretary to the government.

ADGP, Headquarters, Chennai, S Davidson Devasirvatham will now be Additional Director General of Police - Law and Order. He formerly served as ADGP, Intelligence.

52-year-old Dalit leader K Armstrong was killed by a bike-borne gang outside his home in Perambur, Chennai on Friday. Hours after the murder, eight suspects were apprehended in a midnight operation. The main accused is Ponnai V Balu (39), the younger brother of Arcot V Suresh, a notorious gangster who was hacked in full public view last year.

Although the city police officially ruled out any political motive behind the murder, top sources in the department confirmed to DT Next that the killing was in retaliation for Arcot Suresh's murder.

Today, three more suspects were arrested in connection with the BSP leader's killing.
