CHENNAI: Actor Rajinikanth who was rushed to a hospital on Monday after developing health complications, underwent a non-surgical procedure to place a stent in the heart to treat a swelling in the aorta, the main blood vessel leaving his heart.

The 73-year-old actor is stable after senior interventional cardiologist Dr Sai Satish performed the endovascular repair procedure, a minimally invasive procedure, to repair the enlargement of a blood vessel near his abdomen on Tuesday morning, said a medical bulletin from the Apollo Hospitals.

"We would like to let his well-wishers and fans know that the procedure went, as planned. Rajinikanth is stable and is doing well. He should be home in two days," the bulletin said on Tuesday evening.

Other tests were also performed to evaluate Rajini’s health condition, as it was initially suspected to be a case of abdominal aneurysm. After the procedure, he was shifted to the room and is able to communicate with the family members, said hospital sources.

He remains under observation in the cardiac intensive care unit, they added.

Health Minister Ma Subramanian said his health condition was being monitored.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister MK Stalin, Governor RN Ravi, actor Vijay, leaders including O Panneerselvam, Seeman, Tamilisai Soundararajan and others wished him a quick recovery.
