Finally, an official announcement was made over the weekend that Udhayanidhi Stalin will reprise Ayushmann’s role as the cop in the Tamil remake that will be directed by director-singer Arunraja Kamaraj. Talking to DT Next, Arunraja said, “When I saw Article 15, I believed that the film will be remade in Tamil. Raahul of Romeo Pictures then said that he had the remake rights of the film and had approached Udhayanidhi, who asked if I would be interested in directing it. Things fell in place and then Boney Kapoor’s Bayview Project LLP and Zee Studio joined in presenting the project. We are now at the pre-production stage and the rest of the cast and crew will be finalised soon.”

Talking about doing a remake after a hit like Kanaa, Arunraja said, “Be it my own writing or directing someone else’s writing, I believe in justifying what the maker had delivered in the original. A screenwriter and a director are different. A director’s intention is to give his best version of a story even if it is adapted from a novel.” He also said that a few more days are left before the shoot goes on floors. “Locations have to be finalised. We need to sit and discuss the proper shooting norms and ensure that everyone is safe. The corona cases are on the rise and we need to follow strict protocols. We also have to finalise artistes who are best suited for each role. Only after that we need to decide on the shooting dates,” he concluded.
