CHENNAI: Filmmaker Sundar C, contesting as the Puthiya Needhi Katchi candidate from Madurai Central, on Wednesday said actor-politician Vijay was like a brother to him and that he would not make any negative remarks about him or his party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.

Speaking to reporters at Chennai airport, Sundar C said the electoral contest in Madurai Central was primarily between the AIADMK and the DMK. He is contesting against DMK minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan.

Expressing confidence, he said the people of Madurai Central would elect him and that he would return to Chennai with victory to present it to Puthiya Needhi Katchi president AC Shanmugam and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami.

He assured that, if elected, he would stay in Madurai for at least 15 days every month. He added that his wife, actor Kushboo, would visit the constituency and campaign in his support. Recalling his 30-year journey in the film industry, he said his future course of action in politics would be decided after the election.

Alleging significant anti-incumbency against the government, he said it would work in his favour. Condemning the incident in which a bottle was thrown at a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam meeting in Chennai, Sundar C said such acts were unacceptable and added that incidents like these encouraged ordinary people like him to enter politics.
