It is that kind of a period in Tamil Nadu politics where every act of an actor is given a political colour. One movie script is sufficient to make ‘stars’ instant messiahs of a largely politically frustrated electorate. Remarkably, it was not a hero this time, but Kollywood heartthrob Nayantara who became the favourite among netizens as the next big neta, after her latest political thriller, Aram started making waves.
The Kollywood sensation who made a rare personal appearance for the movie promotion here last week has already been eulogised as the next chief minister on social networking sites, quite rare for a female lead of a movie in a male dominated political scene of the state (with exception to the likes of J Jayalalithaa and Kanimozhi, who have broken the glass ceiling).
Even a few feminists who were all praise for Nayanthara for starring in what was described as a “gripping political thriller” suggested that she could make a foray in to politics ahead of Kamal Haasan, who made his political ambitions public here last week. A few in the state bureaucracy have also appreciated the movie in which Nayantara plays a straightforward IAS officer, who rebels against her unscrupulous political masters. A few cub journalists have also tipped her to be a safer bet than Kamal Haasan. All, after just one movie.
