The devotees were seen queuing up outside the temple since early morning for the darshan of Lord Shiva, a report published in Kathmandu Post said.

Around 5,000 sadhus from Nepal and India are expected to show up at Pashupat area in Kathmamdu to take part in the festivities of Mahashivaratri, Pashupati Area Development Trust, the government body responsible for looking after the Pashupatinath area, said.

The arrangements have been made for pilgrims and sadhus for their accommodation, food and water, said the Trust.

This day is celebrated on the lunar month of  'Falgun'  and is believed to instill faith in those destined to live in trouble.
