A few weeks ago, advocate-BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay stood in the Supreme Court arguing for his own petition on hate speech. Although many netizens have shared videos of Upadhyay pitching him as a supporter of free speech, his dubious past has called into question such claims. At an event reportedly organised by him, open calls for ‘cleansing’ were made against Muslims. Even at the Dharm Sansad in Haridwar, he is known to have distributed copies of ‘Bhagwa Samvidhaan’ and referred to Yati Narsinghanand as his ‘Gurudev’.
