A picture showing Mahatma Gandhi with his grandson is going viral on social media claiming that it was taken during the revolutionary Dandi March of 1930.

This post emerged following the Shaheen Bagh incident where an infant died during the protest. The Supreme Court condemned bringing kids to protest.

On investigation, it was found that the picture was taken in Juhu beach seven years after Dandi March, when Gandhi was ill and staying in RD Birla’s bungalow at Juhu. In many historic documents this picture was captioned ‘Gandhi with his grandson Kanu Ramdas at Juhu beach'. Moreover, Kanu was born in 1929 and the march happened in 1930.

It is to be noted that Gandhi's grandnephew who was 15 years old, participated in the March. Nonetheless, the boy in the picture is not the grandnephew but Gandhi's grandson.
