Youth, parents convicted under Pocso in Dindigul

MADURAI: A 24-year-old man and his parents were convicted by the Pocso Special Court, Dindigul, on Tuesday evening, of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.

Each of them were sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. Besides, a fine of Rs. 5,000 was imposed on the accused.

According to the prosecution, Suryakumar alias Surya of Bodinayakkanur committed the crime in 2024. Based on a complaint lodged at Dindigul Town North police, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Pocso Act.

Earlier, Surya was in a relationship with the survivor and sexually abused her. After investigations, his parents, Vasimalai (47) and Mariyammal (45), were also booked in the case.
