Young HC lawyers are doing extremely well: Justice Duraiswamy

He further added that when he took the seat of the bench in the chartered HC on March 31, 2009, he took an oath that it shall be his duty and endeavor to render justice within the framework of law keeping up the high reputation of the court.

CHENNAI: Acting Chief Justice M Duraiswamy on Wednesday said that the second-generation lawyers and young lawyers are doing extremely well in their field. The judge said this while addressing his farewell function on the day of his superannuation.

“The members of the bar are undoubtedly one of the best bars in the country which is gratifying not just the stalwarts and legal luminaries in all branches of the law but also the second generation lawyers and the youngsters of the lawyers are extremely doing well. They are holding a bright future for the continuity of the high tradition of this bar, ” ACJ said, adding, “I am indeed grateful to the bar for extending invaluable assistance to me in rendering justice.”

He further added that when he took the seat of the bench in the chartered HC on March 31, 2009, he took an oath that it shall be his duty and endeavor to render justice within the framework of law keeping up the high reputation of the court.

While delivering the felicitation address, Advocate-General R Shunmugasundaram said that Justice Duraiswamy had disposed of about 46,313 cases during his 13 years of service as a Judge of Madras HC. It is noted that Justice Duraiswamy had delivered several notable judgments that include quashing a 10.5 percent special reservation for Vanniyars under the MBC category and setting aside an order of a single judge in the AIADMK power tussle case.

With the retirement of ACJ Duraiswamy, Justice T Raja will be taking charge as the Acting CJ of Madras HC on Thursday.
