Woman jumps into Kallanai canal with 2 children, search on for daughter’s body

A frustrated woman threw her two children and jumped into the Kallanai Canal in Thanjavur on Thursday due to family problems.

Fire and Rescue Service personnel saved her while search is on for the children. The couple, Suresh (40) and Senthamil Selvi (38), from Seppanavari near Thanjavur used to have frequent quarrels and Selvi was frustrated over this. On Thursday at 5.30 am, Selvi brought her two children Sweta (12) and Gokul Chezhian (3) to the Kallanai Canal and pushed them into the water and jumped after them into the canal. Hearing the noise, people rushed to rescue the three. 

Fire and Rescue Service personnel joined the search operation. However, they could rescue only the mother and kept up the search for the children. Later, in the evening, the team retrieved the body of Gokul Chezhian and search is still on for the girl Sweta. A case was registered and the couple secure for probe.
