Woman en route to hospital delivers boy in open field

A pregnant woman, who was being taken to a government hospital for delivery, developed labour pain en route, leading her to give birth to a baby in a field helped by women working nearby, on Friday.

According to sources, Sonia (23), wife of Silambarasan (27) of Kil Mittalam village near Ambur was being taken on an ambulance for delivery at the government medical facility at Nariampattu. When the vehicle was nearing Ragunathauram, Sonia developed labour pain, resulting in the ambulance driver stopping the vehicle adjacent to a field and calling on women working in the nearby fields to help.


Soon, six women arrived and after placing Sonia on the grass verge, formed a wall around her and then helped her deliver a male child. After delivery, the mother and the newborn were taken to the Nariampattu hospital where doctors said both were in good health.
