MADURAI: A day ahead of Vice President’s visit to Rameswaram for attending the valedictory ceremony of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam, Madurai MP Venkatesan appealed to CP Radhakrishnan to pay a visit to Keeladi, the Sangam era settlement site and the archaeological evidence that belonged to the ancient Tamil civilisation.

Talking to reporters in Madurai on Monday, the Madurai MP cast doubt on the possibility of the Vice President’s visit to Keeladi and asked whether he could help publish the excavation report.

Venkatesan levelled charges against the Centre, saying that efforts were made to alter the Keeladi excavation report with the intent to conceal historical facts.

Moreover, the Archaeological Survey of India is not interested in carrying out excavation at Keeladi any further. Venkatesan also expressed concerns over the allocation of funds under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme, saying that funds allotted under MPLAD were less than those of MLA-LAD.
