CHENNAI: Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay is actively weighing his electoral debut, with Velachery, Virugambakkam, Vikravandi and Nagapattinam emerging as the four constituencies under serious consideration, even as the TVK on Friday launched the distribution of application forms for aspirants seeking to contest the upcoming Assembly elections.

Party sources said Vijay is personally assessing the political landscape and organisational strength in each of the four constituencies before taking a final call. “He is closely studying the ground realities and cadre feedback. A decision is expected in the coming days,” a senior party functionary told DT Next. Another TVK worker remarked that Vijay’s candidature would be strategically decisive for the party’s electoral positioning.

Addressing reporters at Panaiyur, TVK leader K A Sengottaiyan said Vijay would play a direct role in finalising the party’s candidates. “It is Vijay who is contesting in all 234 Assembly constituencies. He will personally examine every application, select the candidates and announce the list,” he said.

The party has begun issuing forms for all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, signalling an early start to its candidate selection exercise even as alliance-related decisions remain pending.

Meanwhile, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) also commenced the distribution of application forms on Friday. Party general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth launched the process at the party headquarters in Koyambedu. The DMDK said aspirants must submit their duly filled-in applications by February 12. The party, too, is distributing forms for all 234 Assembly constituencies across Tamil Nadu and 30 Assembly constituencies in Puducherry.
