UT law college will soon be Law Univ: CM

The Puducherry administration is taking all steps to upgrade the Dr BR Ambedkar Government Law College into a Law University, Chief Minister V Narayanasmay said here on Sunday.

Inaugurating the Alumni Association at the Law College, the Chief Minister said, the bill in this regard would be placed in the coming session of the territorial assembly. He said there was a demand in this regard in the last session of the assembly and submitted a letter to Union Law Minister six months back seeking to convert the college into a Law University. The Minister then assured to do so if the Madras High Court Chief Justice recommended for the same. The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court was also requested in this regard, he added.


Stating that the North-eastern states are having their own High Courts, a demand to grant a HC for UT was put forth, he said.
