In a resolution adopted at his party’s two-day state secretariat meeting here on October 14 and 15, he said that after the Narendra Modi government came to power at the centre, it started blindly imposing Sanskrit and Hindi. It destroys India’s diversity and undermines its unity.

The resolution said that most of the committee’s 112 recommendations to the President are an attempt to impose Hindi and in particular, it has been recommended that Hindi should be made the medium of instruction in the educational institutions funded by the centre.

“This is an attempt to push non-Hindi students out of the central educational institutions, ” it said, adding that the protests have erupted against the Hindi imposition not only in Tamil Nadu but also in Kerala, West Bengal, Telangana and Karnataka.

CPM resolution noted that the union government issued notifications to fill 20,000 vacancies in various departments through the union staff selection commission. “In the notification, it has been declared that the examination would be conducted in Hindi and English. No place for other state languages. It is not only denial of equal opportunities but injustice to non-Hindi speaking candidates, ” it said, demanding that the question paper should be issued in all the state languages.

“We demand declaration of all the state languages listed under the eighth schedule of the Constitutions as union official language and scrapping of the common entrance examination for all the courses including medical, ” it said.
