Two women cops killed in road accident near Melmaruvathur

The incident occured when the women officers were reportedly involved in a mission to apprehend a suspect.

CHENNAI: Two women police officers died when a car struck their motorcycle on GST road near Melmaruvathur, Chengalpattu on Monday.

The deceased were identified as sub-inspector Jayasree (33), and officer Nithya (27). Both the officers were working in M2 Madhavaram Milk Colony Police station.

According to a Daily Thanthi report, the incident occured when the women officers were reportedly involved in a mission to apprehend a suspect.

While travelling on the Chennai-Trichy National Highway, near Sirunagalur village, a car collided with their motorcycle from behind.

Following the incident, Melmaruvathur police arrived at the accident spot and sent both the injured officers to Chengalpattu Government Medical College Hospital. But both Jayasree and Nithya succumbed to their injuries later this morning.

The driver of the car, identified as Anbazhagan (35), sustained minor injuries and was arrested at the scene.

He was sent to Maduranthakam Government Hospital for treatment.

Melmaruvathur police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
