In the first incident, VCK youth were standing and talking near ‘Viduthalai Kalam’ in Melavalavu village near Melur when two men from the same village allegedly arrived on a two-wheeler and launched a sudden sickle attack.

Of the three youths present, two managed to escape, while a youth identified as Selvam sustained severe injuries. He was admitted to the Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital.

In a post on 'X', Thirumavalavan said the assailants swung a sickle towards Selvam’s neck and that he tried to block the blow with his hands. In the attack, his right wrist was severed. A team of doctors was carrying out surgery to reattach the severed wrist, according to the VCK leader.

Thirumavalavan said he contacted medical officials after midnight and requested that Selvam be provided with appropriate and immediate treatment. He also said he contacted senior police officials at the time and urged them to arrest those responsible for what he described as a murderous attack.

In a separate incident, VCK functionary Alagar was allegedly attacked by a group in Ambedkar Nagar near Sellur in Madurai city. The attackers lay in wait in the dark and assaulted Alagar with a machete, causing serious injuries to his head.

Alagar was admitted to the Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital in a critical condition. Thirumavalavan said he had requested medical authorities to provide urgent treatment to save his life.

Condemning both incidents, Thirumavalavan urged the Tamil Nadu government to arrest all those involved in the two attacks and place them under preventive detention.

He also demanded that the victims be provided appropriate compensation under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
