Two suspects arrested in murder of Tirupur youth

Tirupur police on Monday detained two suspects in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old youth.

According to the police, A Arun Kumar (23), a tailor in a textile firm and a resident of Pattukottayar Nagar in Tirupur, was found hacked to death in a deserted thorny shrub on Sunday.


The police said the body was in a decomposed stage suggesting that he was murdered a few days ago. On January 17 night, Arun Kumar had left in a two-wheeler, informing his family members of going to meet his friends and did not return thereafter.


The police said the parents made a futile search in the neighbourhood. On Sunday, villagers spotted his body at Poolaithottam area in Eswaramoorthy Nagar in Velliangadu area and informed theTirupur South police.


The police said the deceased bore multiple injuries on his neck, face, chest and head as he was attacked with a sickle and knife. His hands remained tied and a piece of cloth was inserted into his mouth to prevent him from raising an alarm duringthe attack.


The police said that his two-wheeler and mobile phone had also gone missing. They found liquor bottles around the scene of murder. A sniffer dog, which was pressed into service, ran from the crime scene to Velliangadu Main Road and  stood clueless.


Three special teams of the police formed to nab the culprits have secured two of his friends and are questioning them. The police said the two suspects had gone into hiding after the murder and tracked them through their mobile calls. Further inquiries are on to know the motive behind the gruesome murder.
