In the first incident, Saminathan (42), who was married to a 30-year-old woman from Woraiyur, was arrested under the Pocso Act for attempting to molest the eight-year-old daughter of the woman from herfirst husband.
When Saminathan made repeated attempts to abuse the girl when she was alone at home, she alerted her mother, who later lodged a complaint with the Child Line officials. The Child Line officials forwarded the complaint to the Srirangam All Women Police station.
Based on the complaint, the All Women Police registered a case against Saminathan under various IPC sections, including the Pocso Act, and arrested him. Later, he was produced before the court, which remanded him in judicial custody. He has now been lodged in the Central Prison here.
In another incident, Jaganraj (30), an auto driver from Thrivanaikoil, waylaid a 16-year-old girl, who was on her way home on a bicycle, and attempted to sexually assault her. After the girl narrated the incident to her mother, she lodged a complaint with the Srirangam All Women Police. The police registered a case against Jaganraj under the Pocso Act and then arrestedhim on Saturday.
