CHENNAI: Two teenage boys who went for a swim in the Palar river in Chengalpattu drowned on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as G Sanjay (16) and S Sanjay (17). Both of them were residents of Palur village. They were studying class 12 at a government school in the neighborhood.

The boys along with friends went for a swim in Palar river on Saturday evening. Since the water flow is heavy in Palar, the boys were taking a bath standing in the shore.

Police investigations revealed that both of them did not know swimming. After a while, the boys went missing after which the friends searched for the duo.

After a futile search, they informed the villagers after which personnel from the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services and police department reached the area.

The search was called off after it got dark on Saturday.
