CHENNAI: The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Sunday formally sought security cover from the Delhi Police for its president Vijay, who is scheduled to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi in connection with the Karur case on Monday.

Party sources said an email requesting protection was sent to the Delhi Police by TVK joint general secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar. “Given the public interest in the case and the leader’s profile, we have requested adequate security arrangements during his travel and appearance before the CBI,” a party functionary said.

Vijay had received a CBI summons dated January 6, directing him to appear at the agency’s Delhi office. He is expected to reach the capital on Monday morning, flying from Chennai by a special aircraft at 7 a.m., and present himself before investigators at 11 a.m., sources said.

The questioning is likely to continue over two days. “Vijay has been informed that his examination will be held on January 12 and 13. Arrangements are in place for him to return to Chennai on the evening of January 13 after the inquiry concludes,” a TVK leader said.

The CBI had earlier questioned several senior TVK functionaries in Delhi for nearly 19 and a half hours as part of the same investigation.

With Vijay’s visit now confirmed, both the party and the CBI have intimated the Delhi Police to ensure security and logistical coordination during his stay and movement in the capital.
