Trio held for assaulting cop who questioned drinking in public place

Tirupur police arrested three persons on Sunday for assaulting a cop after he questioned them for consuming liquor in a public place.

According to the police, M Sivagurunathan (28), a textile firm owner; S Harshan (39) and S Yuvaraj (36), all friends and hailing from different areas in Tirupur, were consuming liquor sitting on the bonnet of their car parked at a place near Perumanallur four road area around 2am.


Then, Eswaramoorthy (29), a cop and Satheesh, who is in Friends of Police, were on a patrol in a bike. “When the cop questioned them for consuming liquor in a public place, the trio abused him under the influence of alcohol. They also continued to consume liquor ignoring his warning. The cop then took out his mobile phone and attempted to take video of them,” the police said.


The trio immediately snatched the mobile phone and flung it on the road. They also thrashed the cop and threatened Satheesh. On receiving information, a police team led by Perumanallur police inspector Senthil Kumar rushed to the spot and arrested the trio and seized their two cars.


They were produced in the court and lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.
