CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has requested the public to report plastic manufacturing units that produce banned plastic items.

In a release, TNPCB recalled that the state government has banned the manufacture, sale, and use of single use plastic items. "The TNPCB has done awareness activities at various levels for effective implementation of the ban on plastics. As part of enforcement activities, the manufacturing industries of the said banned plastic items have been identified and closed down by the TNPCB, based on regular inspections and complaints received. So far, we have closed around 240 banned single use plastic manufacturing units," the release said.

However, despite the above measures, it is difficult to identify all the plastic units that are manufacturing banned items, as they may co-exist and operate illegally in small spaces within residential and commercial establishments, the pollution control body noted, while requesting the public for their intervention in eradication of single use plastic.

Residents can send their complaints to the respective jurisdictional District Environmental Engineers of the TNPCB whose contact details are displayed in the official website: https://tnpcb.gov.in/contact.php
