CHENNAI: PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Thursday urged the Tamil Nadu government to take stringent measures to control crimes against women and children.

Taking to the micro-blogging platform Twitter, he wrote, "According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), crimes against children in Tamil Nadu have increased by 39.80% in 2021 compared to the previous year. Tamil Nadu should not become a state where children are unfit to live! As many as 6,064 crimes against children were reported in a year. Of these, 4465 are POCSO cases. 69 children have been killed. Three have been sexually assaulted and killed. 99.25% of the victims were girls. #CrimeAgainstChildren #CrimeAgainstGirlChild" (sic)

"The statistics on atrocities committed against the girl child in Tamil Nadu are heartbreaking. In the past, the PMK has claimed that crimes against women and children are on the rise. These figures confirm the complaints raised. The primary task of a state government is to create an environment in which women and children can live safely. The Government of Tamil Nadu should fulfill that duty. Stringent measures should be taken to control crimes against women and children @CMOTamilnadu," he added.
