CHENNAI: The Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) on Wednesday revised the minimum qualifying marks for candidates in different communities, including SC/ST, to clear the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) to be appointed as a government teacher.

As per the government order released on Wednesday, out of the maximum marks of 150, candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) must secure 40 per cent or 60 marks in both paper I and II, to qualify for the role.

In case of candidates from Backward Class (BC), Backward Class Muslim (BC (M)), Most Backward Class (MBC), Denotified Communities (DNC) and Persons with Disability (PwD), they must secure 50 per cent or 75 marks in both paper I and II.

Earlier, for SC/ST, BC, MBC and for candidates from other communities, the minimum qualifying marks were 55 per cent of 82.5 marks out of 150. It is noteworthy that the revision in minimum qualifying marks has been done following the similar provisions in states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and Maharashtra.

There has been no revision in the minimum qualifying marks for general candidates, who must secure 60 per cent or 90 marks out of 150 marks for both papers.
