CHENNAI: School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh said on Tuesday that the State government will conduct a door-to-door household survey titled Unga Kanava Solluga (tell your dreams) to assess the reach and impact of government schemes and to gather public suggestions.

Addressing reporters, the Minister said the survey would be carried out by 50,000 volunteers, with each household receiving a separate form. “It will not only assess awareness and benefits of government schemes, but will also allow people to share their aspirations and dream projects,” he said.

Chief Minister MK Stalin will inaugurate the survey at Ponneri in Tiruvallur district on January 9. From January 11, people can submit their views through a dedicated website. Youth and college students, in particular, have been encouraged to share ideas that could help shape the State’s development by 2030.

The survey will cover about 1.91 crore households, based on beneficiary data available with the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA). The State has 2.26 crore ration cards, including 89.03 lakh in urban areas and 1.37 crore in rural areas. Of these, 53.07 lakh urban households and 1.04 crore rural households, totalling 1.57 crore, are beneficiaries of government schemes.

According to a Government Order issued by the Public Department, the survey will be conducted by 55,706 Self-Help Group members, assisted by 17,378 supervisors and master trainers. It will be carried out at a total cost of Rs 43.52 crore, including Rs 21 crore allocated to the Tamil Nadu Corporation for the Development of Women. Each SHG member will survey about 30 households per day and will be issued identity cards, with remuneration paid for the duration of the survey.
