CHENNAI: Speaker M Appavu has convened the next session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly on December 9, said a notification issued by Assembly secretary K Srinivasan on Monday.

The session could likely be stormy, as it is coming close on the heels of the opposition criticising the ruling DMK on law and order and State power utility’s alleged link to the Adani Group bribery allegation after the business tycoon's indictment in the US.

The DMK is likely to face some tough questions from the Opposition during the session over the allegation that Gautam Adani, who allegedly bribed government officials of several states to bag solar power deals, had earlier met Chief Minister MK Stalin and members of his family.

On Monday, Stalin rejected the allegations with disdain, which, however, is unlikely to satisfy the opposition benches.

The government will also face some uncomfortable questions on the handling of the recent rains across the State during the ongoing northeast monsoon season.

It would also be the first session since the elevation of DMK youth wing secretary and Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin to the position of Deputy Chief Minister and promoted to third in the Cabinet pecking order.
