TN leaders pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi with Governor RN Ravi, Chief Minister MK Stalin and leaders of various political parties paying floral tributes to the Father of the Nation and Apostle of Peace Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his 156th birth anniversary on Wednesday.

Ravi garlanded the Statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi day and paid floral tributes at Raj Bhavan.

Chief Minister MK Stalin, accompanied by his Cabinet Colleagues and government officials, garlanded Mahatma Gandhi's statue at the Egmore Government Museum campus in the city and paid floral tributes to a decorated portrait of the Father of the Nation.

An all-religious prayer was held and bhajans were recited to mark the occasion.

Meanwhile, the Governor took part in the Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations at Gandhi Mandapam in the city in which school and college students and the general public participated.

The Governor inaugurated the exhibition stalls of Khadi products and Ayurveda medicines from

Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan (Chennai) and Gandhigram Trust (Dindigul), a Raj Bhavan communique said.

Some stalls displayed products made by the differently-abled children of Avvai Ashram (Tenkasi) and the special children of Amar Seva Sangam (Tenkasi).

Ravi distributed prizes to the students who won the State level competition organised by the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan, Chennai, to mark the occasion.

A Charkha spinning event by the Sarvodaya members and recitation of Bhajans by the students of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai were also organised on this occasion.

It said eminent Gandhians who have contributed to promoting Mahatma Gandhi's principles of

non-violence, truth, self-discipline and service were felicitated on the occasion.

Cleanliness workers were also felicitated on this occasion.

Leaders of various political parties across the State also garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and paid floral tributes.
