CHENNAI: CHENNAI: The salaries of temporary teachers working at Adi Dravidar Welfare (ADW) schools across Tamil Nadu had been hiked by the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department.

As per the recent announcement made by the department, the salaries of Post Graduate (PG) teachers had been increased to Rs 18,000 and to Rs 15,000 and Rs 12,000 for (bachelor in training) assistants and secondary grade teachers (SGTs), respectively.

The salary revision of the ADW temporary teachers are revised to make it at par with salaries earned by temporary teachers working in schools under the State Education Department.

To address the shortage of teachers in ADW schools, the department appointed temporary teachers through the exam held by Teachers' Recruitment Board in 2017. During the appointment, the salaries were fixed at Rs 10,000 for PG teachers, Rs 9,000 for BT assistants and Rs 8,000 for SGTs.

Following this, the department in 2022 appointed 830 temporary teachers, revising their salaries at par with teachers in State-run schools. Hence, the salaries of the remaining 415 temporary teachers were revised by the department.
