CHENNAI: A day after Tamil Nadu Assembly unanimously readopted the Bill to ban online gambling, the State government forwarded it to Raj Bhavan for Governor RN Ravi’s approval.

The Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games Bill has been forwarded to the Governor’s office on Friday, informed official sources said.

On March 6, the Governor returned the Bill to the government stating the state Assembly has “no legislative competence”.

Following this, CM Stalin moved the Bill in the Assembly and elaborated on the egregious effects of online gambling.

The principal opposition, AIADMK, and its key ally BJP joined the ruling party and its allies to readopt the Bill on Thursday.

The Bill was first passed on October 19 last year following the recommendation of the committee headed by retired High Court Judge K Chandru.
