TIRUCHY: Farmers raised concerns about the wild animals attacking the crops on Friday during the grievance meet held in Tiruchy on Friday. They said that despite repeated complaints, the forest officials have failed to initiate steps to control the menace despite repeated alerts.
The farmers' grievances redressal meeting was chaired by the DRO R Balaji. Among the participating farmers, MP Chinnadurai raised concerns about the damage to paddy in the Tiruverumbur area by peacocks.
M Abdullah from Marungapuri added to say that the Marungapuri taluk farmers are severely affected by the wild animals, particularly wild boars and buffaloes.
Recently, a herd of goats was mauled by the wild animals owned by two farmers. Around 50 goats were killed, and so the farmers appealed for compensation to the farmers.
“We have been complaining against the menace for the past several months, but the officials fail to take action”, Abdullah continued.
While the farmer Senthil Kumar said that there is monkey menace in Minikiyur and the people have been undergoing untold misery, and the children are not able to walk in the streets. The officials from the forest department were alerted, but no action has so far been initiated to end the menace, Senthil Kumar said.
Meanwhile, a few farmers who lost their goats also attended the meeting, and the farmer leaders spoke for them with the DRO for possible compensation. The DRO assured immediate action by the forest department officials and promised to recommend compensation.
