TN crosses 8L recoveries, only 1 pc cases active

With more than 1,000 persons being discharged after treatment, Tamil Nadu crossed eight lakh recoveries on Sunday. There now are only about 8,000 active cases of COVID-19 – or less than one per cent of cases reported so far.

On Sunday, 1,002 persons were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 8,00,429. There now are 8,127 active cases in the State currently.

The Health Department bulletin reported 867 new cases, including two imported cases from West Bengal. Including these, the total number of cases has reached 8,20,712. Chennai accounted for 236 of the fresh cases, while Coimbatore recorded 69 and Chengalpattu 49. Ten more deaths were notified, and the toll now stands at 12,156. Out of an estimated 2,300 persons who travelled from the UK to Tamil Nadu between November 25 to December 23, officials have traced 2,146 so far. As on Sunday, 44 of them have tested positive, while results are awaited in the case of seven persons.
