Commercial Taxes DC found dead in Porur lake

Family members told the police that Senthilvel left the house for his routine walk on Thursday morning but did not return home.

CHENNAI: A senior officer with the Commercial Taxes Department, who was reported missing by his family members, was found dead in Porur lake on Friday. The deceased was identified as J Senthilvel, a resident of Ambal Nagar in Porur.

He was a Deputy Commissioner in the department working in the Chengalpattu division. The police said that it appeared to be a case of death by suicide and added that they do not suspect any foul play.

Family members told the police that Senthilvel left the house for his routine walk on Thursday morning but did not return home. Following the complaint, the SRMC police registered a case and started a search.

On Friday morning, locals spotted a body in Porur lake and alerted authorities, after which rescue personnel fished it out and sent it to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. Senthilvel’s family members confirmed that it was him, said the police.

The police said that they did not find any suicide notes in his home and are investigating. A case has been registered and an inquiry is under way
