Tamil Nadu: Schools to break for vacation on December 24, reopening on January 5

Meanwhile, the board exam Class 12 will be held from March 2-26 and for Class 10 from March 3-27 across the State. Results for classes 12 and 10 will tentatively be released on May 8 and 20, respectively.

CHENNAI: The State-run schools after the year-end holidays are set to reopen on January 5. And, for the vacation, the schools will remain closed from December 24 till January 4.

Half-yearly exams for classes 6-9 are set to go on till December 23. Exams for classes 1-5 also started on Monday with Tamil paper, followed by maths on December 18, science on December 22 and social science on December 23 for classes 4 and 5.

Meanwhile, exams for classes 10, 11 and 12 are going on and will be completed on December 23 for all classes. Though as per the academic schedule, the half-yearly exam was scheduled in December last week, the calendar has been tweaked owing to the upcoming assembly elections. Due to this, the third term for the 2025-26 academic year will likely begin earlier than the scheduled date.
