TIRUPUR: A brief commotion broke out on Thursday after a slipper was hurled at poet Vairamuthu while he was attending a literary event in Tiruppur, said a report by Maalai Malar.

The incident occurred during the inaugural function of the Kongu Kalai Literary Cultural Forum, held at the District Collector’s Office, where Vairamuthu had arrived as a guest.

As the programme was underway, a slipper was suddenly thrown towards the poet, causing confusion among those present.

The slipper missed Vairamuthu and landed amid the audience.

Police later identified that a woman participating in the gathering had thrown it.

According to preliminary information, the woman is reportedly suffering from mental health issues.

Police have taken up an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
