Tirupattur to be locked down from today

In a bid to ensure reduced movement of people on the streets and to ensure that there was no increase in the number of coronavirus positive cases from the present 17, Tirupattur town would be locked down from Saturday, according to District Collector MP Sivan Arul.

With this, Tirupattur becomes the third town in the district to come under total lockdown after Ambur and Vaniyambadi respectively. Stating that groceries and vegetables would be provided directly to houses in the town, Sivan Arul said it is more of a containment measure than a move to restrict people’s movements.

Meanwhile, Ambur police warned a group of 10 persons, including those who assembled at a place of worship for prayers. Though those present said they had come to the nearby building and not to the place of worship, the police were not convinced and told the group that their gathering was against social distancing norms.

In Vellore, Collector A Shanmuga Sundaram held discussions with officials including DRO J Parthiban on appointing special officers for the containment areas in the town to ensure better monitoring.

Shanmuga Sundaram also interacted with CMC Director Dr JV Peter and held discussions on the treatment being given to coronavirus positive patients in the hospital.
