TIRUNELVELI: The families of several women have submitted a complaint to the Tirunelveli District Collector, alleging that a young man from Thanjavur cheated multiple women by marrying them and committing financial fraud, said a report by Daily Thanthi.
Palaniammal’s family from Melakunathur near Tirunelveli , along with dental surgeon Sheeba Grace from Erode and others, met District Collector Sukumar at his office on Wednesday and submitted a complaint seeking action against the accused.
According to the petitioners, Prasad (34), son of Raja, a preacher from Vallam in Thanjavur district, claimed to be working as an engineer in Dubai. In 2018, he married Palaniammal of Melakunathur. At the time of the marriage, her family allegedly gave 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery as dowry.
The complainants alleged that Prasad mortgaged the jewellery, took the money and left for Dubai along with Palaniammal.
The complainants further alleged that Prasad began searching for another bride in 2024 and married Sheeba Grace, a dental doctor from Erode, in January 2025.
Claiming that he planned to return to Dubai, he allegedly took a loan of ₹5 lakh from a bank in Thanjavur in Sheeba Grace’s name and went abroad, promising to take her with him after a few months.
However, after two months, he reportedly stopped responding to her calls. She later received a photograph of Prasad with another woman. When attempts to contact him failed, Sheeba Grace, with the help of relatives, travelled to Dubai and found that he was living with another woman, she alleged.
The complainants said they later brought Prasad to Erode to resolve the issue, but he allegedly escaped and came to Tirunelveli.
Sheeba Grace alleged that Prasad had cheated several women in a similar manner and that his mobile phone contained photographs of him with multiple women.
Despite submitting documents and handing him over to the police earlier, no case was registered, she claimed.
Meanwhile, Prasad reportedly went to his first wife’s house in Thirunelveli, where her relatives refused to meet him after learning about his alleged relationships with other women.
He later claimed that he was assaulted and admitted himself to the High Ground Government Hospital for treatment.
Following the complaint, District Collector Sukumar directed the police to conduct an inquiry. Police officials have since initiated an investigation into the allegations.
