Tiruchy: Youth bitten by dog, dies of rabies

TIRUCHY: A youth, who was bitten by a dog three months ago, died of rabies infection as he failed to continue the medication in Tiruvarur.

It is said that Akash (22), a construction worker from Mudikondan village near Nannilam in Tiruvarur, was bitten by a stray dog three months ago while he was returning home during night hours.

Akash, who took first aid in a PHC in the locality and did not inform about the incident to his family members.

Despite the doctors advising him to continue proper follow-up medication, Akash failed to take any.

Against such a backdrop, a couple of days ago, the family members found some unusual behaviour with Akash, and so they took him to Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital, where he was diagnosed with rabies viral infections.

On Wednesday night, Akash succumbed despite treatment and the information was shared with the Health department, who took possession of the body and buried it on Thursday with due protocol.
