According to the traders, the number of cases have been increasing in the district day-by-day for the past three weeks and the district IMA had recommended the administration for a total lockdown for at least two weeks. However, Collector S Sivarasu directed to continue the same lockdown regulations as a total lockdown was not necessary. At this juncture, the Tiruchy Traders’ Federation which convened a meeting on Tuesday decided to close down all the outlets across the district by 2 pm from Wednesday. As per their decision, the shops would function from 6 am to 2 pm. “This was decided for the welfare of our customers as well as the workers of various outlets operated under the federation,” said a statement.
