Three killed in Namakkal multiple-vehicle collision

COIMBATORE: Three persons were crushed to death in a multiple vehicle collision involving a goods vehicle, lorry and a two-wheeler on Namakkal-Tiruchy Road in Namakkal on Tuesday.

Police said a goods vehicle driven by Syed Wasin (30) from Karnataka attempted to overtake a two-wheeler on the rail over bridge, when the driver lost control and collided head-on with a lorry coming in the opposite direction around 6 am.

Subsequently, it overturned on a two-wheeler, crushing two persons identified as Senathipathi (24) and Karthi (25), to death on the spot. Syed Wasin also succumbed to injuries. Two others, Akash, 24, who was also riding on the two-wheeler, and lorry driver Rajesh, sustained severe injuries and were admitted to Namakkal GMCH.

Due to the mishap, traffic on the Namakkal-Tiruchy Road was disrupted for nearly an hour. The Namakkal police have registered a case, and further inquiries are on.
